My Gut Healing Journey: The Breakthrough (Part 2)

The Stubborn Rash & Yeast Connection

For years, my eczema would flare unpredictably. I started recognizing patterns:

  • Sugar and alcohol made it worse.

  • Stress played a significant role.

  • While fresh-milled flour helped, it wasn’t a complete cure.

Through my research, I found many people linking dyshidrotic eczema to yeast overgrowth in the gut. Some had success treating it with antifungal medications like Diflucan, but these were difficult to get prescribed since conventional medicine doesn’t typically connect gut health to skin issues.

My flare-ups were painful and frustrating:

  • Blisters would appear, turn into cracked and bleeding skin, and take about five days to heal.

  • Soaps and chemicals caused allergic reactions that worsened the itching.

I had previously controlled yeast overgrowth using food-grade hydrogen peroxide, but this time around, killing off bad bacteria wasn’t enough—I needed to do more.

Since I’d been steadily learning about the gut microbiome and how much it effects our overall health, I finally had a lightbulb moment when I realized I needed to repopulate my gut with good bacteria to maintain balance and prevent future overgrowth.

The Power of Fresh-Milled Flour & Fermented Foods

That’s when I started incorporating fermented foods daily, paired with fresh-milled flour. The results were undeniable:

Some of my homemade ferments

  • I have been having fermented foods 2-3 times a day, including:

    • Fermented pickles

    • Kombucha

    • Water kefir

    • Milk kefir (which my body tolerates wonderfully because it’s raw and unprocessed!)

    • Fermented carrots

  • I pair these with fresh-milled flour for prebiotics, which feed probiotics and help them thrive in the gut.

Slowly but surely, my flare-ups have decreased. My hands are now clearer than they’ve been in over a year. But the benefits go beyond just my skin—this journey has been about true, long-term healing.

Left: my hands from December (3 months ago) / Right: my hands today. I still have some redness, but they are on a steady journey to healing.

Me this month. I now have sustained energy every day, including enough to run several times a week, no longer have bouts of anxiety or joints issues, to name just a few benefits.

Why Gut Health Matters for Everyone

Your gut is the foundation of your health. Over 70% of your immune system resides in your gut, and an imbalanced microbiome is linked to far more than just digestive issues. A diverse, balanced gut helps your body fight infections, reduces inflammation, and plays a role in preventing autoimmune conditions. If your gut is compromised, you may experience symptoms like:

✔️ Skin Conditions: Eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea
✔️ Digestive Issues: Bloating, IBS, acid reflux, constipation
✔️ Mental Health: Anxiety, depression, brain fog, mood swings
✔️ Autoimmune Diseases: Hashimoto’s, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus
✔️ Hormonal Imbalances: PCOS, irregular periods, infertility
✔️ Chronic Fatigue & Low Energy
✔️ Food Sensitivities & Allergies
✔️ Joint & Muscle Pain: Chronic inflammation, fibromyalgia
✔️ Frequent Illness & Poor Immunity
✔️ Sleep Issues: Insomnia, restless sleep
✔️ Blood Sugar Dysregulation: Insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes
✔️ Neurological Symptoms: Migraines, dizziness, numbness
✔️ Heart Health Issues: High cholesterol, high blood pressure

Why Fresh-Milled Flour & Fermented Foods Matter

Your gut influences everything from energy levels to mental clarity. Poor gut health can lead to nutrient deficiencies, leaving you exhausted, foggy, and inflamed. It also affects brain function—your gut bacteria produce neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which regulate mood and stress resilience.

That’s why fresh-milled flour and fermented foods are key to rebuilding gut health. Fermented foods repopulate your gut with beneficial bacteria, while fresh-milled flour provides the prebiotic fiber those bacteria need to thrive. Together, they strengthen digestion, boost immunity, and support long-term healing.

Most people today have damaged gut microbiomes due to processed foods, sugar, refined grains, antibiotics, and environmental toxins. But the good news? You can repair and restore your gut—starting with real, whole, God-given foods.
